Spring-And-Loop Theory

9    What is dark energy?

Chapter 8 was the dambuster09_01. The remaining chapters will be used to elaborate on what has been revealed so far and clean up any loop ends.

Dark Energy And Springs

Previously I mentioned that springs are "dark energy". Why did I say this?

It is now generally accepted that dark energy09_02 is the stuff making the universe expand; that we can't see or measure it in the conventional sense; that the expansion due to it is happening everywhere, and that dark energy is extremely evenly distributed.

Well, I am making exactly the same claims for springs. With their "string theory" origins, they are by definition so tiny we can't see, measure or interact with them in our usual macro world ways. And given their super high energies, it is not much of a stretch to imagine them getting their own way.

If springs want to vibrate against each other with all their might, who is going to stop them? Springs are cosmic scale concrete vibrators09_03, the ultimate levelers of space. So the "happening everywhere" and "evenly distributed" is taken care of by the same "leveling" properties of springs.

Einstein's Light-Energy Equation

Last chapter I said that "the Universal Matrix is pure energetic springs. Imagining those 'becoming energy' doesn't compute. Only mass (i.e. loops) can become energy."

Other than repeating the statement here, I am not sure I can add more to it, but at the risk of making my simple model appear more complicated than it is, I'll give it a shot.

Springs are not mass. "Springs" are the descriptive concept I've come up with to describe the oscillating energy units that saturate space. The key thing here being the word "energy".

It is widely understood that life is matter, and energy. We see this daily in innumerable forms but we've never had a great model of what it all was like at the Planck scale09_04.

String Theory, a radical departure from the Standard Model, was both novel and beautiful in how it embraced the Planck side. On the dark side, String Theory has much greater complexity built into it09_05. As a result it has to be considered a largely incomplete theory today, with far too many unknowns to be otherwise.

Field theory09_06 seems to be gaining popularity today, with the concept of there being fields "at every point in space"09_07, as Sean Carroll puts it. Well, Field theory is entirely compatible with Spring-And-Loop Theory. The field points here would simply be where one spring contacts another one.

Photons

It turns out that Spring-And-Loop Theory has something to offer when it comes to trying to visualize what exactly photons are and how they propagate.

Photons move at the speed of light, have no rest mass and are "the quantum of light and all other forms of electromagnetic radiation"09_08.

It is all very well to say this, but how do we visualize it? For example, why do photons move "at the speed of light", why are they quantized and how can they possibly represent "all other forms of electromagnetic radiation"?

In Spring-And-Loop Theory, photons are the force transferred from spring to spring. The easiest way to visualize this is to watch a Newton's Cradle09_09 once you have set it in motion. One ball hits the next, that hits the next, and so on. The key concept here is that it all appears to happen instantaneously.

So now imagine turning on a flashlight. Energy goes through a coil, heating a metal filament. The metal reaches the point where it gives off photons, the photons travel through the air toward your eye and you register light -- the beam of light you receive being a series of photon lumps, or quanta, hitting your retina.

Spring-And-Loop Theory says the coil receives enough energy to start pounding against the spring-based Universal Matrix, one photonic hammer blow at a time. Hitting the first spring, the pulse is transferred at light speed (i.e. spring speed) from one spring to next. Eventually, the spring touching your eye is hammered, and it imparts energy to your retinal loops.

Blink And You Missed It

Something else pretty significant came out of that last paragraph. I said "the pulse is transferred at light speed (i.e. spring speed)". I am eager to credit anyone who came up with this earlier, but this may be the first time anyone has said exactly what the speed of light is. Wikipedia, in contrast, defines it as the maximum speed anything can move in a vacuum09_10, hardly what I would call a working definition.

Spring And Loop Theory says the speed of light is based on the time it takes energy to travel through the Universal Matrix.

Spring-banging-against-spring speed, if you prefer.

Models bring insights. New simpler models bring greater insights more quickly and easily. And British food is terrible09_11.

A Universal Matrix Of Springs

In the last chapter we talked about how graviton loops create holes in the Universal Matrix. In this chapter we should be ready to see how difficult it is for graviton loops to try to move through a field of springs, particularly springs that can wrap around loops.

Moving a loop through a matrix of springs is a labor intensive proposition, even in a non-union shop. Imagining a man-made object ever moving at even a hundredth the speed of a photon is impossible for me to do.

To give some perspective, the fastest sound waves (P waves09_12) can travel through rocks at about 4 miles per second. Now try to imagine a physical bullet moving through rock at 4 miles per second. A 22-caliber bullet is about 20 times slower than this, in air09_13.

Consider what would happen as the bullet moved through the rock. It would meet the rock's resistance with energy, and both parties would be the losers. The rock would crumble and within a few inches, or tenths of inches, the bullet would have disintegrated and stopped.

I realize this may be a blow to science fiction buffs, but science and balloon popping go hand in hand. Making the phrase "science fiction" a conflict in terms.

Help Yourself

No doubt there is much more that a Universal Matrix of Springs can be used to model. Feel free to use it as you see fit. Embrace, extend or extinguish it09_14...if you can.
